The Mindanao River Basin Management Council (MRBMC) held its First Regular Meeting last 7 December 2015 at the Pinnacle Hotel, Davao City. The meeting was presided by the MRBMC Chairperson Cardinal Orlando Quevedo. Also present were Governors Lala Talino of North Cotabato and Daisy Fuentes of South Cotabato, along with MinDA’s Director Rey Tan and the Regional Directors and representatives of NGAs, LGU alliances, and other stakeholders.
The Council discussed the initiatives of MinDA, NEDA, DENR, DPWH, OCD-NDRRMC, and the LGU alliances on MRB rehabilitation and development as mandated under EO 50. Current alliances include the Ala Valley Landscape Development Alliance, Pigcawayan-Alamada-Libungan-Midsayap-Aleosan-Pikit-Banisilan Alliance, Arakan Valley Complex and SouthWest Ligawasan Alliance of Municipalities. These alliances also provided updates during the meeting as MRBMC recognizes their critical role in the management of the MRB.
Engr. Roger Oducayen of DPWH XII reported the structural measures to mitigate flooding on areas within and adjacent to the Mindanao River Basin. Among the priorities of the MRBMC during the meeting is to address flooding.
