TreeVolution Greening: MindaNOW! lead organizers hold a press conference to formally announce the setting of a new world record
In a press conference at the regional office of the DENR XI today, Regional Executive Director Joselin Marc Fragada stated that Guinness World Record (GWR) has confirmed via email that TreeVolution has set a new world record for the most trees planted simultaneously in multiple locations.
With an official GWR count of 2, 294,629 trees planted, Mindanao’s record eclipses India’s by almost 300,000 trees, achieved by 122,168 volunteers at 29 locations throughout the island-region.
Director Reyzaldy Tan, representing MinDA, emphasized during the press conference that “this will be a continuing campaign not only in greening Mindanao, but also in instilling environmental awareness and responsible stewardship in all of us.”
Further, Director Tan said that the focus now will be on sustaining the success of the TreeVolution. MinDA, he said, is in the process of preparing a comprehensive package of programs to address sustainability such as the Barangay StraTreegic Forest Project (BSFP), Payment for Ecosystem Services (PES), Youth TreeVolution Movement, and massive mangrove reforestation along Mindanao’s East Coast.
